With so many people claiming to have the answer to weight loss, it’s hard to know who to trust.
Your doctor?
A personal trainer?
A nutritionist?
But who is really best for help with losing weight and what does a nutritionist do to help with weight loss?
What does a nutritionist do and how can they help you?
The word nutritionist is very loosely defined.
As a certified nutritionist myself, I know that there are all sorts of qualifications and certifications to becoming a nutritionist.
But what is most important is how will a nutritionist help you to lose weight? And is a nutritionist the right person to see for weight loss.
The answer is absolutely yes, but it depends on the nutritionist!
With weight loss, what does a nutritionist do?
Most nutritionists will push the same diets that everyone else is pushing.
“Move more, eat less and cut out bad foods.”
That is the general philosophy of most nutritionists.
But why would you waste your precious time and money to pay someone to tell you what you already know doesn’t work.
Because if you are like the rest of us, you have probably already tried lots of different diets right? And I’m sure you’re not surprised to hear that studies show that over 95% of diets don’t work, at least beyond the short term.
Worse than that, the same study shows that you are more likely to gain weight from dieting in the long run. Maybe you have experienced that as well, where you initially lost some weight on a diet, only for it all to come back on, plus more, once you ran out of willpower? This can lead to an exhausting cycle of yoyo dieting, as over time your weight rebounds down and up and up over and over.
So if diets don’t work, but most nutritionists suggest that you go on a diet, why would you see a nutritionist!?
